Sugar Land performing arts center gains steam

Houston-based Linbeck Group LLC has been chosen to be the construction-manager-at-risk for an $83 million Sugar Land performing arts center, Community Impact reports.

Linbeck Group was awarded a $98,500 contract for pre-construction services, which includes general coordination of the project.

Washington, D.C. architecture firm Martinez & Johnson Architects presented designs to the Sugar Land City Council in September. Together with Martinez & Johnson, Linbeck will complete construction on the project.

The Sugar Land performing arts center will be located on roughly 40 acres of city-owned property in the Telfair commercial district, southeast of Highway 59 and University Boulevard. The performing arts center is expected to break ground in the summer and will take 24 months to complete, according to a statement issued by Sugar Land city officials earlier this year. The venue will have flexible seating capacity of 6,500.

The Sugar Land City Council approved a development agreement in July with Houston-based theatrical development and management company Ace Theatrical Group LLC to design, develop and construct the performing arts center.

Sugar Land recently landed the headquarters of Nalco Champion, a provider of chemical services to the oil and gas industry.
